What is Shadbala?
Shadbala translates directly to "six-fold strength." In Vedic astrology, checking a planet's sign and house is not enough to understand its true power. A planet might look strong because it sits in a good house, but if it lacks inner strength, it cannot deliver results. Shadbala solves this by measuring a planet's exact capacity to influence your life across six different dimensions.
Astrooz calculates your Shadbala by breaking down positional strength, directional strength, and natural strength based on precise astronomical data from our proprietary astronomical engine. This gives you a clear percentage score, so you instantly know which planets are the true drivers of your destiny and which ones need support.
How the Shadbala Calculator Works
1. You Provide Details
You enter your exact date, time, and place of birth. Accuracy matters here because even a few minutes can shift a planet's house and change its directional strength.
2. We Analyze the Chart
Our engine maps your planetary positions and runs them through the Shadbala strength rules. We evaluate sign placement, house position, and natural planetary hierarchy.
3. You Get the Score
We output a clean percentage score for each planet. You see exactly how strong each planet is, ranked from most powerful to weakest.
Understanding Your Result
Very Strong (70% - 100%)
These planets dominate your chart. They dictate your major life themes and easily manifest their results during their active periods (Dashas).
Strong (50% - 69%)
These planets are highly capable. They provide steady support and yield good results with standard effort.
Average (30% - 49%)
These planets have mixed strength. They can give results, but often require you to put in extra hard work or use remedies to activate them.
Weak (Below 30%)
These planets lack the energy to push their agenda. Areas of life ruled by these planets will face delays or require significant remedies.
The Three Pillars of Strength
Our calculator focuses on the three most impactful metrics of Shadbala to give you an accurate snapshot of planetary power.
- Positional Strength (Sthana Bala): This measures how comfortable a planet feels in its zodiac sign. An exalted planet scores highest, while a debilitated planet scores zero.
- Directional Strength (Dik Bala): This measures a planet's power based on the house it occupies. For example, the Sun is strongest at the top of the chart (10th house), while the Moon is strongest at the bottom (4th house).
- Natural Strength (Naisargika Bala): This is a fixed hierarchy. The Sun is naturally the strongest, followed by the Moon, Venus, Jupiter, Mercury, Mars, and Saturn.
Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if a bad planet has high Shadbala?
A strong malefic planet (like Saturn or Mars) will aggressively enforce its agenda. If it rules good houses, it brings massive success through hard work. If it rules bad houses, it brings strong obstacles that you must face head-on.
Can Shadbala change over time?
No. Shadbala is calculated from your birth chart, so the base score remains fixed for your entire life. However, transit planets have their own temporary strength that interacts with your birth chart.
Why are Rahu and Ketu not in the results?
Classical Shadbala principles do not apply to Rahu and Ketu because they are shadow nodes, not physical planets. They reflect the strength of the planets whose signs they occupy.
Is Shadbala more important than Yogas?
They work together. Yogas show the potential for success, but Shadbala shows if the planets have the actual energy to deliver that success. A great Yoga with weak Shadbala often fails to materialize.
How can I improve a weak planet?
You can support a weak planet through specific remedies. Wearing the right gemstone, chanting mantras, or performing charity related to that planet can help balance its energy in your life.
